Role Summary:
 
Baker Hughes, a GE Company has an opening for an Electro Optics Technician to be based out of our Blacksburg, VA facility.   The Blacksburg, VA facility is focused on designing, developing and manufacturing fiber optic components, assemblies and surface equipment for use in downhole oil and gas wells.  This Technician will assembly & test the Fiber Optic Sensors, Fiber Splicing, Handling and Assembly of Micron size components. Assembly and Test of Opti-electrical assemblies including soldering, hi-pot testing and troubleshooting.
 
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Assembles, tests, and troubleshoots electro-mechanical assemblies and fiber optic Components and assemblies
  • Assemble & Test Fiber Optic Sensors
  • Fiber Splicing
  • Handling and Assembly of Micron size components
  • Assembly and Test of Opti-electrical assemblies including soldering, hi-pot testing and troubleshooting.
  • Assemble components under a microscope
  • Performs complex and difficult tests with minimal instruction and documentation.
  • Assists in reworking, repairing, and modifying non-conforming equipment.
  • Process Improvements, able to document procedures and process improvements.
  • May build test fixtures.
  • Provides technical support to other groups and co-workers.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of experience as an electro/mechanical technician or optical technician.
  • Basic skills on fiber splicing and testing, soldering and assembling of electro/mechanical devices.
  • Ability to work with small parts with fine detail
  • Good Digital Dexterity is required
  • Excellent Hand Eye Coordination
  • Assemble components under a microscope
  • Good eye sight; must be able to distinguish colors.
  • Proficient in the use of multi-meters, meggers, hi-pot testers, oscilloscopes and other basic instruments.
  • Ability to read, interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, assembly prints, and parts lists.
  • Proficient in the use of oscilloscopes.
  • Understands basic Optical Networks.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work in small groups.
Desired Characteristics:
  • Associates degree in Electro/Mechanics or engineering technology, or technical vocational certification in AC/DC electrical circuits preferred.
  • Assembly of Optical Networks
  • Capable of utilizing optical splicing equipment, including cleavers.
  • Experience with micro-electronic components or fiber optic sensor handling and assembly a plus.
